"Artists for Humans"
Stephanie Lucas

Stephanie Lucas is crazy fresh and crazy humble! It’s almost as if she has no idea just how talented she truly is. Stephanie has been at it for years, ever since she was a youth she had a vision of one day becoming an artist.

“I think it was (around) 5 or 6 years old. Music and art have always been a huge influence in my life. Its kind of nerdy but I’m not sure how old i was but i used to make castles out of cardboard and glue. It was this weird phase I went through..kinda of random. As I got older I realized that I wanted to pursue a career in art somehow.”

“I actually attended San Jose State and continued my art education and Majored in Animation/Illustration. There I slowly found who I wanted to be as an artist and what I wanted. I found that I was doing art for the professors and not for myself and I felt like a robot.”

After juggling different life avenues and switching between majors, Stephanie found her time on the canvas greatly reduced. Actually it was more like a two year hiatus.

“I completely found myself not drawing or painting for almost 2 years. I reconnected with it when I was laid off last year in February and slowly started getting my mileage back. I noticed that painting was something that I loved and can immerse myself in.”

A layoff is never good, unless that is of course you are us and by being us, love amazing artists.

“It was not until recently that I got my art swag back. Thanks to Paolo (Salazar) for letting be part of my first art show earlier this year and a second one in April. I was pretty amazed that I sold a painting! It was my first piece I’ve ever sold.”

Things are looking up already!

“So I’m now kind of getting a feel for my style and its slowly emerging. It has been very hard for me to have people see what I can do.  I just want to thank you JC for even considering me for this and giving me this opportunity. It has encouraged and helped me out a lot =)”

Did I mention she was humble, man that’s what it’s all about here at Lower Branch. We also love it when artists end their sentences with smiley faces, highly encouraged and a form of proper punctuation in our book. Be sure to come check out Stephanie’s work for yourself Friday June 25th at the Lower Branch Art Show.

Stephanie Lucas, you rock keep up the amazing work and welcome back my friend. Never leave us again =) ha.

Peace
