Catherine Lagman is a down to earth humble girl with a big heart and a love for art, photography, design and people in general. Kinda on the nerdy tip with with a passion for coding mixed in for kicks, but don’t front for a second! This girl will tear down SF, getting her “Funky Cold Medina” on like nobody’s business. The art skills are raw and speak for themselves with deep rich flowing lines and outbursts of color that fit her vibrant personality. A savvy traveling globe trotter with what seams to be a knack for being around when the big one hits. Think 1989 the Loma Prieta quake that rocked San Francisco and halted a World Series and most recently the quake that devastated Japan.
“Yeah, the tsunami, the earthquake, the issues with the nuclear power plants, it was tough to be there during the disasters.”
Cat has always been grounded finding passion in paint and photography. She honed her skills and really found her style niche while living in San Francisco. She’s not an art major, didn’t drop out of an academy but yet found who she was and who she is through her childhood passion.
“2008-2009, that was a monumental period for me. I felt lost a year or two before, experimenting and figuring out who I really am, not just as an artist, but also as a person. Late 2008 was when I defined my style and have been keeping up with it ever since. I moved to the beautiful city of San Fran (mid college years) that’s when I started to really concentrate on my artistry. SF is such a beautiful city and has a very different vibe compared to most cities in America. The relaxed atmosphere brings a lot of energy and freedom into my style.”
It was also a recent and prolonged tour of Asia that left Catherine with new life, new meanings, and fresh inspiration.
“The experience was worthwhile and I recommend anyone to go to Asia and travel. I’ve learned a lot about different cultures, people, food and had a lot of time to concentrate on myself. I lived in the Okayama Prefecture (2 hours away from Hiroshima by train) so I would hang out with some of my friends out there and all around South-Western Japan. Lots of sake and nomehodai which is all you can drink for two hours for a set price. It’s like an open bar with a 2 hour time limit. As a whole, the trip was amazing.”
Back at home this girl has been non stop on the grind, hitting the art scene like maybe people may have forgot about little old Cat. Painting and design work doing it, photography done. Art shows check, skills en fuego.
“Yes! The shapes and patterns of my style are now evolving to forms of humans. I feel that my art has grown in correlation to my experiences. I adopted that style during a series of unfortunate events and I’ve been using it ever since. Right now, working on a few pieces for future shows, practicing photography, overall I’m just trying to do me. Trying to make a name for myself and spreading the love. Lowerbranch.com! We’re gonna take it to the next level, for sure.
Cathirine Lagman also has a site of her own that needs to be checked out by anyone looking for web work. She not only did the code for from scratch but designed every aspect of it herself.
“Createwithpaint.com baby! CWP represent. Oh wow, I’m not gangster, don’t worry!”
We know Cat, we know. You can catch Catherine Lagman July 8th at The Artists Alley SF for the Pancakes and Booze Art Show and of course July 22nd at 111 Minna for Lower Branch’s One Year Anniversary!
