"Artists for Humans"
Casey Fay aka Fay Dirgle

Casey Fay won’t eat fish, don’t eat fish and suggests that you shouldn’t either. Though I may disagree, one thing we can agree on is the freshness behind his color popping land and sea creations. Just think “Super Mario Bros. meets the Animal Kingdom” style of artwork. Casey is currently residing in “Gurp City, Oakland Ca.” and has been in the mix for sometime in the Bay Area art scene. Having grown up in the small but live town of Chico I’m sure Mr. Fay has seen a party or two in his day, but know this as the sometimes great Trick Daddy would say “Casey loves the kids.”

Casey started painting over a decade ago and has been hitting the art scene tough throughout the last three years. His style is something taken from the days of our youth mixed with characters children of today would love.

“Lots of Pac-Man, Mario, Jim Hensen, Mad Magazine and most recently Jim Woodring
comics.”

”I try not to think about it that much (inspiration). I usually just let my pencil do the sketching then fill it in when it looks like something that strikes my fancy. Also I try to steal as much as I reasonably can from my favorite artists.”

Fay’s your average whiskey drinking Robin Hood giving back to the youth of today as well as the adults of yesterday. His first book “Wonders of the Sea: Cephalopods” is currently sold out, but no worries there is more in the works.

“I’d say my books are more fun based on facts, factual fiction if you will. I’m in the process of writing the next one which will almost be all fun. After I get the basic concept down I’ll start cranking out the art. I’ll try to have it out by Christmas but we’ll see.”

If you can’t wait for the book you can beat feet to Emeryville and if you thought you recognized the art from somewhere other than the dream where your drinking at the drunken clam with the cast from sponge bob, well you did.

“I painted a 5 foot by 20 foot mural on the wall of the new Lanesplitter restaurant in
Emeryville. It wasn’t that crazy but I was on a scaffold for two weeks and it came out
awesome for something that I’d never done before.” “I’ve got stuff up at the 5353 dispensary on Claremont in Oakland so if you want to go get high and cop some art at the same time that’s the place to go.”

Casey is a busy dude mixing the art world with children’s literature and some multimedia ventures in the works. We here at Lower Branch appreciate Casey taking the time to chop it up with us. So be on the lookout and yo don’t eat the fish!

Peace,

LB
